La educación sentimental en el cine de Lourdes Portillo
Mexico
Plot
This project seeks to analyze the formal aspects of Lourdes Portillo's work through melodrama, understood not only as a genre but also as a critical concept to discern about social life in Latin America. Portillo's work is essential to rethink the Latin American documentary because it navigates a style that moves away from the orthodoxy of the militant documentary that took place during the second half of the twentieth century. Her work proposes the possibility of 'another cinema' in which humor is possible, a close intimacy with what is filmed and, mainly, the formal, aesthetic and narrative game that recovers certain codes that cultural products such as soap operas have introduced in the social and political life of the continent.
